ABOUT BLACKWING

Award-winning songwriters and composers have sworn by Blackwing pencils since the 1930s. The unique design and high quality materials helped inspire the creative process behind some of the greatest songs ever written. John Lennon, Stephen Sondheim, Leonard Bernstein and were reported to be among their fans. Quincy Jones loved them so much he wrote about them in his autobiography. The pencils were temporarily discontinued in the 1990s by a corporation who lacked commitment to the expensive materials and complicated manufacturing process it took to make such a niche product. We acquired the brand in 2010 and not only invested in the relaunch of these amazing pencils, but in the artistry of deserving singer-songwriters.

Blackwing Music was founded to give a platform to independent musicians who have something meaningful to share. We achieve this through live performances and record production. To date, we’ve had the privilege of releasing nine original studio albums and producing numerous distinctive live events. Our focus extends beyond financing a part of the record-making process. We connect talented individuals with a growing community of fans who value the authenticity and voices of independent artists, while providing them with the creative freedom they need to make great music. Unlike most traditional labels, the artists keep 100% of the records they sell.

A portion of every Blackwing purchase, including albums on the Blackwing Music label, benefits the Blackwing Foundation. The Blackwing Foundation funds and develops arts and music education in public schools. The Foundation supports programs like Little Kids Rock, whose modern band program is focused on inspiring kids and putting music education back in the classroom.
